iPhone Speaker Cleaner Works in Safari

iPhone Speaker Cleaner

Is your iPhone speaker quiet or muffled after rain, a swim or months in a dusty pocket? This free iPhone speaker cleaner plays a cleaning sound straight from Safari. Water mode uses a low 165 Hz tone to push water out, and Dust mode uses fast pulses to shake loose dust and lint. No app or shortcut needed.

Silent mode must be off. On iPhone, a silent phone plays no sound in Safari.

iPhone Speaker Cleaning Sound: Water vs Dust

Water and dust block the speaker in different ways, so each mode uses a different iPhone speaker cleaning sound. Pick the one that matches what happened to your phone. Water mode uses the same 165 Hz tone as water eject.

Fix a Muffled iPhone Speaker

A muffled iPhone speaker is not always about water or dust. Go through these checks before you book a repair. Our guide on iPhone speaker not working has more fixes.

Start cleaning

Check the case and screen protector

A tight case or a badly placed screen protector can cover the speaker or the earpiece. Take them off and test again.

Takes 10 seconds

Clean the grille gently

Use a soft, dry brush to lift dust and lint from the speaker holes. Never push pins or needles into the grille.

Soft brush only

Run the cleaner twice

Run Water mode, then Dust mode, with the speaker facing down. Wait a minute and run them again if needed.

Water, then Dust

Check where the sound goes

If AirPods or a Bluetooth speaker are connected, sound may go there. Turn Bluetooth off and test the speaker again.

Bluetooth off

Restart and update

A restart and the latest iOS update can fix sound bugs. If nothing helps, contact Apple Support.

Questions

FAQs

Quick answers about cleaning iPhone speakers.

Still muffled?

Run Water mode, then Dust mode, and check that silent mode is off and Bluetooth is not connected.

Go to the tool

Take off the case and screen protector, then gently brush the speaker grille with a soft, dry brush. Turn off silent mode, raise the volume and run Water mode and then Dust mode on this page with the speaker facing down. Also check that Bluetooth is not sending the sound to another device, and restart your iPhone. If it is still muffled, contact Apple Support.

Use a clean, soft and dry brush, such as a new soft toothbrush, and brush the speaker holes gently. Then run Dust mode on this page so the pulses shake loose what the brush could not reach. Do not use pins, needles, liquids or strong compressed air.

Clean both the bottom speaker and the earpiece at the top of the screen with a soft, dry brush. Then run the iPhone speaker cleaner in Water or Dust mode. During calls, also make sure the call volume is up and that your case does not cover the earpiece.

An Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider can check your speaker and tell you if it needs cleaning or repair. You can book a visit in the Apple Support app. Try the free steps on this page first, as they fix most muffled speakers.

The water eject shortcut is not an Apple feature. It is made by users and shared online for the Shortcuts app. You do not need it, because this page plays the same kind of sound in Safari. If you still add a shortcut, only use one from a source you trust.

Ready when you are
